Expansion of the Shareholder Group at S-UBG AG

Sparkassen Neuss and Rhein-Maas Join the Shareholder Group of S-UBG AG

More Equity and Network for Financing Companies at Various Stages

Aachen/Neuss/Kleve, February 21, 2025 – The S-UBG AG, a regional investment company based in Aachen, has gained two new shareholders: As part of a capital increase, Sparkassen Neuss and Rhein-Maas (Kleve) are joining the shareholder group of S-UBG AG. “With this, we are expanding our target region to include two economically strong areas with numerous innovative companies,” says Bernhard Kugel, a board member of S-UBG AG. “In addition to strengthening our financial power, the new shareholders will also expand our network of expertise in management and business development—this will benefit companies in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss and Rhein-Maas regions.”

Other shareholders of the private equity company, founded in 1988, remain Sparkassen Aachen, Düren, and Krefeld, as well as Kreissparkassen Heinsberg and Euskirchen, and Stadtsparkasse Mönchengladbach.

A Boost for SMEs

The corporate clients of Sparkassen Neuss and Rhein-Maas are primarily medium-sized companies with diverse advisory needs. By participating in S-UBG AG, they gain access to additional financing options and improved access to equity capital. For both Sparkassen, the integration of SMEs, start-ups, and research—an approach actively promoted by S-UBG in the Rhineland—is also of great interest.

“What drives our clients are topics such as growth and transformation financing, succession planning, restructuring, and innovation and digitization projects,” says Marcus Longerich, board member of Sparkasse Neuss. “Now we are even better equipped to support companies in Neuss with capital, networks, and entrepreneurial expertise.”

Wilfried Röth, board member of Sparkasse Rhein-Maas, also sees new opportunities for his corporate clients through collaboration with S-UBG: “For us and our medium-sized clients, the added value lies in maintaining and strengthening companies and jobs in the region. Additionally, we want to facilitate market entry for start-ups. That’s why, together with S-UBG, we are committed to ensuring that economic development, technology, and research work closely with the local business sector.”

S-UBG Strengthens Medium-Sized Companies in the Western Rhineland with Long-Term Commitment

As a fund focused on SMEs, S-UBG AG invests in companies from growth sectors that require additional equity, for example, for expansions, shareholder transitions, and succession solutions. Since its founding in 1988, it has financed and supported the development of over 200 companies.

The private equity fund, with no fixed term, often remains invested for long periods—sometimes over ten to fifteen years—and aims for sustainable corporate development. In addition to capital, S-UBG provides its partners with management expertise and an extensive regional network. “A recent example of a successful succession plan is the Krefeld-based company Lumino GmbH, in which S-UBG has been an investor for over 20 years,” says Kugel.
